Issuing a license
Issuing a license is how you give one of your customers a working AI Admin Panel. You do it yourself, from the Licenses page in Partner Center — no need to ask us and wait. When you issue, we mint a real license key and show it to you once.
Before you start
You need two things in place:
- A customer to attach the license to. You create and manage these yourself on the Customers page. If the customer doesn't exist yet, add them there first.
- An active contract. A contract is the commercial deal we've agreed with you — your pricing model (metered, flat, prepaid pack, …). We set these up; you'll see them read-only on the Contracts page. If your contract list is empty, contact us to get one set up — you can't issue against nothing.
Who can issue
| Role | Can issue? |
|---|---|
| Owner | ✅ Yes |
| Member | ✅ Yes |
| Billing | ❌ No — read + export only |
| Read-only | ❌ No — read + export only |
If you don't see the Issue license button, your role doesn't allow issuing — ask an owner in your organization.
Steps
- Go to Licenses in the sidebar.
- Click Issue license (top right of the table).
- Fill in the form:
- Customer — which of your customers this license is for.
- Contract — the commercial terms it's billed under. Only your active contracts appear.
- Edition — the product edition (e.g. Power User, Web Host). The edition must be offered under the chosen contract; if it isn't, you'll get an "edition not available" message — pick a different edition or contract.
- External billing reference (optional) — your own invoice or order number, carried through onto the statement line so you can reconcile later.
- Click Save.
The license key is shown once
When the license is minted, its full key is displayed a single time in a pop-up, with a Copy button. Copy it and hand it to your customer (or paste it into their panel) right away — Partner Center stores a masked version and offers no full-key retrieval through its portal or API. If you lose it before it's activated, terminate the license and issue a new one.
Once activated on the customer's server, the panel validates the key directly against our license service — Partner Center is never in that path, so a Partner Center portal outage alone is not a license-service outage. License validation and offline-cache behavior still apply.
After issuing
- The new license appears on the Licenses page as active (or trial for a trial contract), where you can later suspend, resume, terminate, or change its edition.
- It starts accruing on your statement according to its contract's model.
- To automate issuance at scale (marketplace / auto-provisioning), use the Partner API instead — same capability, driven by an API token.
Troubleshooting
| What you see | What it means |
|---|---|
| No Issue license button | Your role can't issue (billing/read-only). Ask an owner. |
| Empty Contract dropdown | You have no active contract yet — contact us to set one up. |
| "Edition not available for this contract" | That edition isn't offered under the contract you picked — choose another edition or contract. |
| "Customer and contract must belong to the same partner" | The customer and contract are in different accounts — both must belong to the same partner inside your allowed subtree. |
